Clash of the Titans Review
iheartdestroy.com’s staff (stub3n, nickles and shooga) all went to check out this remake together. Clash of the Titan’s a cheesy but memorable movie from the past gets a makeover, will it turn out to be for better or worse. We have decided to break up the review into segments; one for each of us three. Shooga being the person who had never seen the original Clash movie, Nickles who has seen it but not for some time, and stub3n who recently had a refresher before seeing the remake. Read on to see how we cast our judgment upon this god-like film.

I recently watched the old 1981 Clash of the Titans before going to see the 2010 release. I found it humorous in cheese like acting but memorable in that same aspect. The original was dated even for it’s time but managed to be a great success amongst it’s fans. As I looked for this same appeal in the new edition I found it lacking many traits that made the first one so great. A lot of the story from the original had gone under some very serious editing. My favorite parts gone missing… when Perseus first discovers his weapons, yeah that whole part is very different in many ways. To quickly note on that his sword wasn’t lightsaber-like (being a hilt with no blade until activated). His shield was much different not being crafted from the scorpions; the original was a gift from the gods also and it also came packed with a talking Zeus head and reflecting abilities (of which the later film lacked reflection, which changed a key fight in the movie). Also Perseus never got a helmet for which he could go invisible. This also changed a key moment from the original in the new version. Aside from these glaring faults and a few others related to those, the fight sequences really pulled me in and I felt like I was either watching or participating in a party-based video game with epic boss fights one after another. The 3D has left me with not much to say about it… it wasn’t really on par with any other 3D films I’ve seen to date. They mostly used it as a gimmick to add into text effects and make depth between the characters. There were not flailing kraken arms sweeping past my face… I wasn’t impressed.
Without spoiling too much; I felt waaaaay too many plot points were cut in the 2010 Clash. The story was very much different aside from the boss fight sequences which got a very needed update. I give it high scores in CG and fight choreography, and very, very low scores in acting, plot/story line, and from deviating from the original since this is after all a remake. If you have not seen the original 1981 Clash of the Titans I saw many holes in the script that were left out that would completely fly over any audience unfamiliar with the first film.
I’ll leave it at that. 2010 Clash of the Titans has some great fight sequences which were poorly stitched together and you can see the films plot tearing at the seams.
5/10

Clash of the Titans had a great opportunity to become as epic as it’s tale implies. With our current CG technology and new methods of creating great 3D you could imagine that recreating this brilliant story would produce something so jaw dropping and amazing that it would compare to a modern day star wars. It was close…sort of however there are still many things I did enjoy about the movie.
The CG was spot on, and the audio was fantastic. I enjoyed the soundtrack I think every scene was well mastered. The action was brilliant. I highly enjoyed the fight scenes they were truly entertaining. A good number of the actors/actresses performances were great and made the movie bearable. I enjoyed the subtle humor they placed in, wasn’t much but helped make the movie that much more entertaining. What I enjoyed most tho was how many of the action scenes were reminiscent of the Pen and Paper Dungeons & Dragons. If you are familiar with the game I’m sure you’d see a few instances where your like “OOH Ive done that!” or have scene it done.
What I did not like about the movie unfortunately for me overshadows the things I enjoyed about it. Now Ive grown up reading and watching the classic Clash of the Titans. It is a brilliant story. The original movie is cheesy but, very entertaining and well made story wise. This new iteration simply does not hold up. The story was entirely too rushed. I’d say only the movie only covers about 1/3 of the story, and they changed so much that nothing really made sense, and in some parts is hard to follow. I also did not like the main character’s acting what so ever. I blame it on so much of the movie being rushed but it felt more like the acting job of someone in an early 90’s action flick. The 3D was practically non-existent. Just seemed to make the CG more crisp. There were only a few scenes that really stood out as 3D and that was just of a group of guys in the beginning, and then the lettering at the beginning and end of the movie. The complete lack of any true 3D made the movie feel even more rushed.
If your a fan of the original I would suggest seeing this film, because it is entertaining just don’t go in expecting it to be as good story-wise, as the original. If you do plan to see it I recommend avoiding the 3D. It’s really not worth it. Might be best to wait for it to come out on DVD/Blue ray and rent it. Overall this movie did satisfy my action needs but left me wanting in the story department.
I give this a 4.5/10 angry Greek goddesses.

While I hadn’t seen the original film…
I’ve been drooling over the release of Clash of the Titans ever since the TV trailer aired.
Heres the my mini review!
Acting
Hits: I have to rave about Ralph Fiennes, he was fantastic as Hades! Ralph brought a much needed darkness to the film and played the vengeful god flawlessly. Other noteworthy bits come from the two hunters, the unlikely heroes were in my opinion the only characters we ended up of feeling any connection with.
Misses: Sam Worthington (Perseus) delivers a semi dull performance, I expected him to give the role more heart.. he is after all a demi god fighting for Greece’s survival?
Other
Hits: One of my favorite moments came early on in the movie during the scene where Andromeda’s mother is comparing her to the gods. Hades entrance into the palace, is conceptually perfect and the cgi makes it extremely believable… sadly the whole movie doesn’t follow suit.
Misses: I like a good love story, but I could have done without Perseus and Lo’s budding romance.
The entire film was so rushed that there just wasn’t enough time to put any substance behind it and make us care. In the end I would have rather seen the love story get the axe and more time put into fight scenes or a more in depth story line.
Fight Scenes / Boss Battles
Hits: The actors themselves made the fight sequences very convincing. I could tell there was a large amount of training as far as their swordsmanship and tumbling ability. I also really enjoyed the Medusa fight! The cgi department did a incredible job on the character, shes looks both sexy and ruthless.
Of the boss battles it was the most memorable, and though it seemed rushed it managed to be the lengthiest scene.
Misses: I was most disappointed with the kracken fight.. or lack there of.
From the movies trailer I expected a really epic battle, unfortunately Perseus was able to defeat the massive monster in just 3 minutes without even drawing his sword.
I give 2010’s Clash of the Titan, 7/10! Out of the iHeartDestroy crowd…
I enjoyed the movie the most, it was full of really great moments and I’d see it again just not for thirteen bucks. Save yourself some cash and rent the dvd when it comes out or for those of you who can’t wait, a decent torrent :p
